The New Milford Public Works Department consists of four different entities:
Highway Department,
Engineering Department,
Recycling Center
Facilities Maintenance Department

located next to the ball fields on Young's Field Road.
Included under the Highway Department is
Vehicle Maintenance which repairs all highway
vehicles and also many Town vehicles as well.

Just a few FAQS:
176 miles of paved roads
26 miles of gravel roads
Asphalt plants close from approximately November
until April, so hot asphalt is not available in the winter.
One MILE of road average 22' wide needs 1300 TONS
of asphalt 2" thick, at FY 6-7 of ~$48 per ton +escalation
For those that don't want to do the math:
It costs approx. $62,000 for ONE MILE of paving
FY 6-7 used 8,750 tons of process for gravel
road maintenance at $10.50 per ton.
Drivers in the winter travel about 10-12 miles
for their own plow route. They average 2-3 hours
for one pass of their route. The Industry standard
is about 8 miles per driver. Further details on
