Highway Department

The Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance, drainage and snow plowing for all 181 miles of paved roads and 26 miles of gravel roads throughout Town. Department responsibilities include sweeping, gravel road grading, pothole patching, drainage maintenance and installation, roadside mowing, sign maintenance, catch basin maintenance, curbing repairs and responding to customer service requests through the self-report See Click Fix program. In 2023 staff responded to over 337 requests from residents though the SCF program as well as many others reported by other means. Additionally, the department runs a full tree crew complete with bucket truck, chipper and stump grinder to keep roadways clear and safe, runs an in-house paving program to overlay roads and the Town’s Fleet Maintenance Shop to handle maintenance and repairs on Town vehicles.  

In addition to the routine work, the Department is available to respond 24/7 to emergencies such as winter weather, fallen trees and vehicle accident clean-ups.  

The Highway Department consists of a Highway Foreman, Deputy Highway Foreman, twenty-eight Highway Maintenance personnel, a Head Mechanic and four Mechanics. The Department’s Fleet consists of twenty-four CDL dump trucks, one 10 wheel dump truck, five mason dumps, two front end loaders, two graders, one backhoe, three excavators, three sweepers, one skid steer, a paver, three rollers, a Vactor, a Durapatcher, four roadside mowers and a multitude of other small equipment.
