A Victory Garden (sometimes called a "war garden") is a vegetable garden planted at a private residence or public park that is designed to reduce pressure off the traditional food supply during times of national duress.

Since gardening is generally considered therapeutic, a Victory Garden has the side benefit to providing an avenue for exercise, and being a huge morale booster for those that get to reap the delicious rewards of their efforts.

With the current food insecurities affecting many citizens, in addition to hit-or-miss availability within the traditional food supply chain, The Town of New Milford, CT, along with several residents (mostly volunteers) is encouraging residents to grow their own food at home.

Our goal is to help gardeners discover the joy of growing their own food and providing for their families and neighbors.
Thanks and we look forward to helping our citizens on the awesome endeavor that is gardening!

There is New Milford Victory Garden Page on  Facebook that has videos and helpful hints to help you make your garden a success.

The New Milford Victory Garden Page is updated constantly with the most recent videos and info.

Former Mayor Bob Gambino has written a book "Easy to Grow Vegetables". Although  written for children, it is a great resource for first time gardeners of all ages. It is a large file so if you are interested in a copy, contact phembrook@newmilford.org and she will email you  a copy
