Engineering Department 

The Engineering Department is responsible for the design and/or implementation of municipal projects including the construction of buildings, roads, bridges and stormwater drainage systems. Motorist and pedestrian safety is of paramount importance in all phases of planning and implementation of projects. 

The Engineering Department processes all permits for Town right-of-way use including: driveways, road use and excavations that impact the flow of traffic in Town. We also issue all 911 numbers and ensure existing numbers are unique, sequential and standard. The department utilizes the Cartegraph asset management software system to track not only permits but work requests and work orders as well as all signs, markings, sidewalks, bridges, roadways and drainage systems. This system allows us to better monitor and maintain assets which results in more efficient operations and lower operating costs. 

The department also participates in the Design Services Team which works with the town land use, building, fire and health officials. This service is available to all homeowners and developers to discuss their project(s). Similarly the Engineering Department provides land use reviews for various Town commissions when requested. 

The Engineering Department consists of a Town Engineer, Road Design Engineer, Road Construction Supervisor, Project Engineer/AutoCAD Technician, Junior Engineer and interns when funding allows.
